48 Hours in Covent Garden: Local Food & Culture Guide

If you only have a weekend in London, Covent Garden should be at the top of your list. It’s where the charm of old London meets the creative energy of today’s West End. As someone who grew up in this city and now works in the heart of it, here’s how I’d spend 48 hours soaking up the best of Covent Garden’s food, culture, and character.

Day 1: Historic Streets, Hidden Finds & Evening Elegance

9am: Coffee & People-Watching at Monmouth Street

Start your morning with a proper coffee from Monmouth Coffee Company. Grab a seat outside and watch the area come to life.

10am: Explore the Covent Garden Piazza & Apple Market

Wander through the historic piazza and browse the Apple Market’s stalls of art, crafts and antiques. Street performers often provide a lively soundtrack.

11.30am: Discover the London Transport Museum

Fun, interactive and filled with nostalgia, this museum offers an inside look at the capital’s transport history. A must for all ages. Tickets start from £21.50 and can be booked online at ltmuseum.co.uk.

1pm: Lunch Al Fresco in Covent Garden

For a relaxed lunch, choose one of the many charming outdoor spots dotted around the piazza. Try Sushi Samba for colourful, high-energy Japanese-Brazilian-Peruvian fusion with a fantastic cocktail list and vibrant small plates. It's the perfect way to soak up the atmosphere.

3pm: Visit The National Gallery

Just a short stroll from Colonel Saab Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery houses masterpieces from Van Gogh to Turner. Entry is free, with special exhibitions available at an additional cost.

5pm: Embankment Gardens & Riverside Walk

Unwind with a peaceful stroll through the Embankment Gardens, a serene green space nestled between the Strand and the Thames. Continue your walk along the river for classic views of the London skyline and plenty of photo opportunities.

6pm: Dinner & Cocktails at Colonel Saab Trafalgar Square

Book a table at Colonel Saab Trafalgar Square for a memorable dinner. As the sun sets, enjoy elevated Indian dishes in a lavish setting, with creative cocktails to match. Highlights include the Kashmiri lamb curry, jackfruit biryani, and the Colonel Saab Thali.

Day 2: Art, Brunch & Boutique Gems

9.30am: Brunch at Chez Antoinette

A charming French bistro tucked away in the heart of Covent Garden, Chez Antoinette serves rustic, homestyle brunch with a Parisian twist. From croque monsieur to fresh pastries and organic eggs, it’s a warm and welcoming start to your day.

12pm: Neal’s Yard Stroll & Juice Stop

Before diving into retail therapy, take a moment to explore the colourful, tucked-away courtyard of Neal’s Yard. Snap some photos, grab a health shot from Neal’s Yard Remedies, and enjoy the peaceful pause in the heart of the city.

1pm: Shopping in Seven Dials

This area offers a village feel with independent shops, beauty brands, and some of London’s most stylish boutiques.

3pm: Indian Afternoon Tea at Colonel Saab Holborn

For a mid-afternoon treat, head to Colonel Saab Holborn for their Indian Afternoon Tea. Inspired by the travel tales of Colonel Saab and his wife across India, it’s a beautifully unique experience that blends British tradition with vibrant Indian flavours. Expect familiar favourites reimagined with a creative twist. Prices start from £35.

6pm: Drinks at The NoMad London

Sip a pre-theatre cocktail in one of London’s most stylish hotel bars, tucked inside a former magistrates’ court.

8pm: Catch a West End Show

You’re in theatreland, after all. Covent Garden is home to iconic venues like the Royal Opera House and the Lyceum Theatre. Book ahead for a big musical or try your luck with day tickets. Prices vary, with some shows offering tickets from £20. Visit officiallondontheatre.com to explore options.

Make It Your Own

Covent Garden is endlessly walkable, packed with surprises and always buzzing with something new. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or looking to see it with fresh eyes, I hope this local guide helps you make the most of your 48 hours.
